Random Rant

Kon'nichiwa min'na!

Okay guys, so I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a blog… But, I’ve been busy writing exams, and haven’t had time to watch any new series or play any new games. But exams are now over so I’m hoping to update a whole lot more. Anyway, I wrote this rant this morning after my exam, here it is word for word as I wrote it this morning.

It’s 10:00 a.m. I’m sitting in my exam hall writing my last exam for the midyear. Well, actually I finished about half an hour ago, and I’m waiting now to leave at 11:30.

As I was sitting here, folding paper hearts and colouring my exam paper in with a highlighter, I had one of those “conversations with a friend” in my head. Now, in this conversation in my head, my friend didn’t know something about another student all because he didn’t take the time to listen. Please excuse me as I rant for the next few minutes.

As I was having this conversation in my head, a thought came to me, a thought within a thought if you will. One of societies greatest problems, and threat to its existence, in my opinion is the fact that nobody listens to anyone intently enough to what that person has to say for it to have any significant impact on their life. It starts at home, children do not listen to their parents, and more importantly, parents do not listen to their children. After that it spreads like wildfire. Grownups do not listen to authority figures in the workplace, and vice versa. The worst though in my opinion is that the worlds Governments and leaders do not listen to the people of the country they are tasked with over-seeing.

If any of you reading this have watched the news over the past year, you will have noticed that a few things have happened. Osama bin Laden for one, has been killed by the American Government in a covert operation. Al Qaeda is dissipating and the world is a better place. But what of the leaders of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak, and Libya, Muammar Gaddafi? These dictators have been ousted killed and removed from power. Why, you may ask? Because the people of their countries were not satisfied with the cruel and inhumane treatment they were receiving. If Egypt’s, and the other countries facing these challenges, governments had taken the time to listen to its people, the people would not have turned on them resulting in these leaders dying and/or being removed from the positions they held.

The world would be a better place if everyone could just stop what they are doing and ask someone, “Hey, how are you doing?” and then taking the time to listen to what that person has to say. A kind word and an open ear could just be what somebody needs to stop them from doing something they would regret. I am guilty of not doing this though; I don’t ask enough people if they are okay, I am a selfish human. The population is selfish, and something we should all learn is selflessness. With more people willing to listen, there would be less to shout about.

Well, it is 10:26 now, our teacher has told us that we can leave at 11:00 if everyone is finished, I hope they hurry up. I also hope you took the time to read what I had to say, and please, if you can, listen to someone in need.

[Edit] We ended up leaving the exam hall at 10:30. LOL.

Is money the root of all evil? An essay by Matty~~

Kon'nichiwa min'na!

Is money the root of all evil?

“1 Timothy 6:10 – For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

That is of course a passage out of the New King James Version of the Bible, but what does that passage tell us of the root of all evil? It speaks of the love that we, as humans, have for money and of the greediness that we have in our hearts when it comes to wanting more than what is needed. It also talks about the sorrows that a person bestows upon themselves when they give in to said greed. It is true that, without money we would struggle to survive day to day, we need nourishment, sustenance and basic goods such as food and drink.

A poor man can live out his days with the minimal amount of money and be content to have his friends and family, but what of a man who has endless riches? A man with a bank account that seems to never run dry, is he happier than the poor man, or is he in a deeper state of unhappiness and misery?
Yes, he has the money, the cars, the houses and the stature of being a top businessman, but when he uses his money and power to corrupt others, and to trod upon those who have less only because he seeks to enrich himself further, is he not then an evil man?

“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men…” This is a quotation of Lord Acton’s letter to Mandell Creighton from 1887. What gives men power, that is simple enough to answer, money. Money gives men power, and when men have power, they are seldom to not use it.

What of corruption? Corrupt policemen for example, will stop you on the road and demand a bribe, bribe in this case is just a nice word for money. Corrupt government officials also, because of greed, pocket millions and in turn damage communities. Because one Minister is pocketing money, one hospital is not receiving their medicine. Because one Mayor is holding back some money for himself, three schools are not getting repaired. There again, are reasons that prove that money causes acts of deceit and evil.

Dictators use their power and money to oppress their people. Warlords use their money to buy weapons to injure, and kill, hundreds of innocent lives. Business corporations who are renowned around the world use their money and influence to bully, for lack of a better word, the minority businesses. These are all acts of evil, yes, a business takeover is not on the same level as the murdering of lives, but that small business owner now needs to find another way of feeding his family.

Money is used as a tool by many to get what they want, when they want it, no matter the consequence. Another aspect to consider is this, is the lack of money not the true root of all evil? I don’t think so; a person can not have money, and be happy. A person who has money in abundance only seeks to gain more. A person would then likely say “What of crime? People do not have money so they resort to stealing.”

People who steal are not evil people, they re people like you and me, just far more desperate. Thieves can get jobs and work, but a rich man can’t forgo his riches. Greed, one of the seven cardinal sins of man. Sin, an act of evil. On the most basic level, money in itself is not the root of all evil. It is an inanimate object, paper with printed numbers on. Money is however the instigator of all evil. It is because of money that people do what they do.

It is clear to me, that had the invention of money not been considered in the first place, the world would be free of evil. Not all evil of course, as money does not force man to rape, but the world would sure be a happier place.

2012

Helllllllllllooooooo everybody!!!! Happy New year!
It's officially 2012, a year for new possibilities and
great adventures.

Okay, so this is my new blog. My name is Matthew
Loom, but everyone just calls me Matty. I started
this blog because as I enter into my final year of
high school I'm seriously thinking about a career
in journalism, and so I'm using this as a way to
get out there. As the title of the blog suggests it's
all about my "Marvel's", too be honest it's nothing
about me. Matty's Marvels was just catchy. What
I'll really be posting on this blog is news about
current events, be it technological such as the
arrival of the new PlayStation Vita (EXCITE) or be
it they found luminous monkey's living on Mars.
It'll vary.

As we enter 2012 with expectations and
anticipation (and hoping we won't die come 21st
Dec) we all have the chance to start fresh. I'm
taking that opportunity this year and I hope that
everyone else will too.

Happy holidays from me Matty~~ and good luck
to all the Matriculants of 2012, we'll make this
year rock!
